SELF-DETERMINATION

The self-determination program is a California statewide alternative to the traditional way of providing regional center services. It allows participants to have more control over selecting their services and supports through a person-centered plan and a budget.

I am a licensed occupational therapist (OTR/L) based in California with extensive experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities, their families, and support staff. I also know a lot about the self-determination process. 

 

In addition to providing occupational therapy services within my scope of licensure, I also offer non-clinical services and coaching under the title Program Development Specialist. I can work with your team and provide education to support staff to develop a program that supports community integration and life skills. Program planning and coaching are not provided as occupational therapy, are not medical in nature, and are not billed through insurance.

 

When working in this non-clinical capacity:

 

• I do not diagnose, treat, or provide therapy for medical or mental health conditions.

• Educational, supportive or consultative services are not intended to replace skilled, occupational therapy or other licensed healthcare services.

• Any references to my OT credentials are made solely to provide transparency about my professional background.

 

 

If you are seeking occupational therapy services, or if I begin to work with you and decide that an OT evaluation may be appropriate, I will refer you to your physician and initiate that process. My OT services are available separately and will be clearly identified as such, with appropriate documentation, consent, and of course, billing.
